Work in Progress: Q&A for the Magazine DPS

  • What motivated you to start on your journey to become an artist?
"My aunt is a singer and I always looked up at her for changing people's lives with her songs.
  • Did you have any experience prior to your decision to make music?
"No, I only had my ambition to work with.
  • Where did the name SoyaM come from?
"I just took a few letters from my name and rearranged in a way I liked it.
  • How did your family and friends react to your decision?
"They were quite shocked and did not approve of it especially my mum because they were thinking that I would not achieve my dream, but I knew what I wanted so I did it anyways.
  • Your latest album 'PoisoN' was a big hit, where did the idea come from for it?
"The idea came from the corruption of people and the government."
  • How did you react to the overwhelmingly positive feedback from the fans?
"I am not surprised, I make good music.
  • Any advice for fans who want to be an artist just like you?
"Always think of music as a hobby and do it because you want to not because of the money, this way you will make better tracks, and do not give up early because it takes time to get the smallest of attention."

Feedback of Magazine Proposal Pitch

Feedback:

  • I should create a better masthead because 'Techno' does not suit the Dubstep/RnB genres and 'Beatz' is a common and boring name.
  • I did not make arguments for choosing IPC Media as the publisher of my magazine. So I should think more about what publisher I want to choose.
  • I did not specify any artists who would be featured I my magazine so I should look into artists who I would like to have in my magazine.
  • I should have done more research on my target audience as the information I have now is very vague.

Evaluation of College Magazine Front Cover and Contents Page

Preliminary Task Evaluation

What went well?

Front Page:
The feedback shows that the colour scheme is really good and went well with the picture. The cover lines are also spread equally on the front page which captivates the reader. The text is also not hard to read at any parts of the front cover.

Contents Page:
The feedback tells me that the contents page's structure is good and the text is easy to read.

What went wrong?

Front Page:
The feedback points out that I should add a price tag and issue number as well as a headline or baseline or puffs to make the front cover more appealing to potential readers.

Contents Page:
The feedback shows that I should add more colours to the page and make those colours match with front cover to stay consistent. Also there is too much unoccupied space on the contents page that I should find use for.

College Magazine Analysis

Image:

  • mid-long shot
  • eye level
  • colour scheme: blue, yellow, black and white
Page Layout:
  • masthead
  • barcode
  • cover lines
  • text boxes
Language:
  • informal
  • might mention places and people that are only familiar to students

The differences between a college and a music magazine front covers are that college magazines use brighter colours and the images show the ideal students of the college would want to have. College magazines also show positivity above all else because the college has to be shown in a positive way, however music magazines does not have to follow such 'rules' so they tend to use darker colours and pictures where the artists are rarely ever smiling or showing signs of positivity. College magazines are also more likely to use informal language because most of the readers are teenagersv who ae attending the college, whereas music magazines have a much wider range of audience so they have to be more formal.

Class Analysis of Usher front page in "Vibe" magazine

Front Page

Mid-Long Shot of Usher, aeroplane in background he is a pilot, box-fresh white T Shirt, dog tags, Aviator shades, "Top Gun"- classic US iconic. High key lighting emphasis star quality, expensive accessories. The masthead: the star is placed in front of the masthead, this tells us that he is important and that the brand is well known. Main cover line anchors the picture and is large, the other cover lines are telling us what else is in the magazine. Has a 'plus' as a puff. Skyline gives names of artists to appeal to other people as well. QR code, barcode and the website. Direct address. Usher is written with lowercase to advertise his brand. Colour scheme: black/yellow/blue. Font san-serif, consistently used.
